Dr. Rayen Chakra is a board-certified Infectious Disease physician dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients throughout the Wiregrass region.
Dr. Chakra earned his Doctor of Medicine from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in 2017, followed by completion of his Internal Medicine residency at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Queens, New York in 2021. During his residency, he served on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic in one of the hardest-hit regions in the country, gaining invaluable experience managing complex and critically ill patients.
He went on to complete his Infectious Disease Fellowship at Augusta University Medical Center in Georgia in 2023, where he received rigorous training in the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of infectious diseases.
Practice Philosophy
Dr. Chakra believes that infectious disease care should be both highly specialized and deeply personal. He takes time to ensure patients understand their diagnosis and treatment plan, empowering them to actively participate in their care. His approach emphasizes precision medicine, clear communication, and continuity of care.
Community Focus
After practicing as an infectious disease physician in Florida, Dr. Chakra founded Wiregrass Infectious Diseases to address a critical gap in specialty care in Southeast Alabama. His mission is to bring advanced infectious disease expertise closer to home for patients in the region.
Personal Background
Dr. Chakra is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina and holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from East Carolina University. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, fishing, hunting, and staying active through sports and martial arts. He is fluent in English and Arabic, allowing him to connect with a diverse patient population.
